Two dead after small plane crashes at New Jersey's Teterboro Airport

Two people died when a small plane crashed near New Jersey’s Teterboro Airport and sent dark smoke billowing into the air.

A Learjet 35 crashed as it was approaching the airports Runway 1 around 3:30 pm and went down about 400 yards away, the FAA said in a statement to the Daily News Monday afternoon.

Two unidentified crew members were the only people on board and died during the crash, according to the Carlstadt police.

The plane was coming from Philadelphia International Airport, and police said that it hit at least two buildings on its way down.
Teterboro Airport was closed after the crash, and was expected to reopen at midnight Tuesday morning.

Flight records from Flight Aware show that a Learjet 35, which normally can hold up to eight people plus two crew, departed from Philadelphia a 2:30 p.m. and had been scheduled to arrive at Teterboro at 3:30.
